Burano
Clearly a holiday shot I guess. Burano is one of the islands in the Venice basin and well worth a visit. The light was a bit harsh but the colour saturation was attractive.

Re: Burano
For me, the areas in shadow create a nice balance to the very bright areas and help to tone down the overall effect.

Re: Burano
Very neat. I love the colours and even the frame and the framing.

Re: Burano
Lovely image... IMO, that small female figure walking away from the camera (image left) brings life to the image. The leading lines of the walkway directed my eye to her.
I loved photographing the Venetian area. This is exactly how I remembered some of the minor canals bordered by the colorful architecture. There seems to be something unique about the light in Venice...

Re: Burano
Thanks all for the comments.
Richard, I waited hoping she would cross the bridge but she began to veer towards the alley on the left so I took the shot. Venice is definitely magical. The first time we went was on a cruise and the Captain waited outside of the Lagoon until dawn had broken and those of us that rose to see it (curtesy of a special early morning call) were treated to a golden pink sunrise over the Venice skyline with Andrea Bocelli being played over the ships ship's audio system. Quite magical but my photography at that time wasn't up to doing it justice.

Re: Burano
Great image John As far as I know it is an Island famous for its hand-made laceworks. I'm hoping to see Burano and Murano sometime in the future

Re: Burano
Thanks Binnur. Yes you are right and Murano is of course famous for its glass. Near to where the shot was taken, we were invited into a lace workshop where the owner proudly told us he had recently finished a commission to completely outfit Elton John's bedroom in hand made lace. Most of us just have to make do with a piece here and there.

Sometimes they spoil it...
This giant blow-up figure in front of the church is meant to bring attention to birth defects. However, IMO the defect is in what the figure does to the scenery.
Luckily it is not a permanent addition to the Island...

Re: Sometimes they spoil it...
I'm going from memory Richard but I seem to remember that this particular church is the venue for a much recognised annual art exhibition. The statue in question was one of the exhibits by a UK sculptor a few years ago which is why it was in the news. I also seem to remember that it (the Exhibition) has a reputation for including exhibits from the more modern Avant Garde school of sculpture most of which is not my taste I have to say.
