In port for a two week R&R stay. They open the ship to the public for a small fee. It was kind of fun to shoot but sort of like shooting at a car show where you have to work around others who want to get into your shot.

You definitely have an affinity for photographing ships. Really nice series full of rich but natural color, perspective and texture.

Nice series Chris. One thought for you, taken out of cinematography. If you do a series of stills like this, having an "establishing shot" that sets the scene is usually useful. A wide shot that sets the scene, perhaps of the whole ship from the dock or baring that a wide shot of the bow that shows many of the features that you explore in depth in this series.

For people that know sailing ships, they can dive right in, but there is nothing to pull things into context for the rest of the audience. I'm pretty sure that shot of the deadeye is hard to put into context, sitting there by itself.

I agree with Manfred's suggestion, it is something I (usually) consciously do when creating a series. Arguably, the third might suffice (if first).

My only other thought was that the last (Random Line), being of different colour tones (green, not brown - also mostly shade, not sunny), doesn't 'flow' well from the rest.

It's helpful for me when evaluating a set of images to know the photographer's intent. As an example, there is a huge difference in knowing whether the set is intended to be a comprehensive documentary of the ship or is instead simply a display of the best photos taken on the outing. Lacking that explicit information and usually being happy to give the benefit of the doubt, I take this series as the latter mostly because of the series' content and my familiarity with the consistently high quality of Chris's images.

Try as I wanted, I could not get the whole ship into a decent shot because of all the cars, and other people en scene. I agree it would have made for a better context. Perhaps this shot from the side window of my car will help in the context of the scene.

Me too...I enjoyed your use of the fish eye lens. I cannot get a fish eye around my head if I try...+1 to John's comments. I enjoyed this series.
