    New Zealand Wines

Sorry if the title gave you all hopes of something akin to the type of images that Mike Buckley provides us with, with no disrespect to Mike who produces superb images of wine and associated accoutrements.

This is a slightly different view on wine, with the images taken on opposite sides of a road near Blenheim on an overcast and wet day. This is also my play on words for the image titles too

    #1 House Wine

    New Zealand Wines

#1 Cropped as per Mike Buckley's suggestion.

    New Zealand Wines

    #2 Rosé Wine

    New Zealand Wines

#2 Cropped as per Mike Buckley's suggestion.

Interesting that Mike's images could be simply called grapes and some viewers wouldn't think twice about what he would be referring to. Nice set, great capture of the clouds.

At the time of year you were there the would have just been sour grapes so I am very glad you have given them far juicier and more imaginative descriptions.

    Nice captures.

If I owned the vineyards and wanted to get a neat picture of the rows of vines, I would find a very-very tall ladder or hire a elevating bucket and place the platform right near the edges of the vines and shoot down with a very wide angle lens.

In fact, we have a lot of vineyards around here and I might think of placing my camera one the end of a tall painter's pole (I have one in my garage ). There are commercial adapters which will place a tripod 1/4-20 screw at the end of the pole. Then Using my cell phone for viewing and a cable release, I could get "aerial" shots of the rows of grapes. I have an 8mm fisheye for my Canon crop camera which may be just the ticket! That will have to wait till I sync up my smartphone with my camera...

I particularly like #1, with the greater contrast in the sky and the rich green of the vines.

If you would crop both photos at the bottom to just below the vines, you would have winners in my mind.

Blenheim is in the Marlborough wine region, which is one of the most famous regions in New Zealand. The grapes are likely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. I've enjoyed all three in wines made in that area. Do you know what the grapes are?

    Richard,

I think it would be rather difficult at least for a klutz like me to control the painter's pole, the cable release and the cell phone if you have nobody helping you. Consider using your cell phone rather than a cable release to release the shutter. You could also use your cell phone to control other settings.

Sorry Mike I've absolutely no idea what the grapes were, though we did visit the Waipara Hills Winery (LINK) Cellar Door and tried some of their offering. We did purchase three bottles as a present for our friends who we met with latter on in our trip.

I've cropped the images and will add them to my original post.

Sorry I am late. I just want to say that I kinda like the original ones better, not the panorama style, my thought being not everything elongated is suited to be crop in the panorama way. I like the compositions (original too). Good job on them.

Lovely place Peter I like both images. IMO I would prefer a crop between the original and your cropped version.

If you were to cut out the mountains and put a body of water it would remind me of where I grew up in NY. Nice photographs.
