Iconic places at the Botanical Garden for C&C of course...

    1 Linnean House

Built in 1885, it is the oldest continuously operated public greenhouse west of the Mississippi River and the nly remaining greenhouse at the garden tha was bulting during Henry Shaw's day. It was named after Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778), the botanist who created our standard scientific system of naming plants and animals.

The Linnean House was originally designed to be an orangery, a house to overwinter citrus trees, palms and tree ferns. These large potted plants provided bold accents in the outdoor gardens throughout the summer, and were brought in each winter.

Unfortunately, I cannot shoo that guy in front of the house. His feet was killing him and will take any chair that will accept his butt. hahaha

3 Grande Baigneuse #4 (The Great Bather) is a work of art by Emilio Greco, an Italian sculptor, in 1959. This was commissioned and donated to the Botanical Garden by Patricia Aloe Tucker.

Nice compositions. However, IMHO, the second and perhaps third need some editing to change tonality. In the second, everything but the sky is very dark--almost all on the lower half of the histogram. I did selected the sky (just a few seconds with the quick select tool--it needs some cleanup on the left edge), inverted the selection, and used a curves tool to brighten that part of the image and add a bit more contrast. Not a great edit, but enough to show what I am getting at.

Did you, perchance, offer a hug and kiss from a lovely southern belle in exchange for the seat?

Tricky scenes but you have all the verticals upright and a nice sense of perspective.

With the first image, I think the man on the seat actually adds a nice touch of realism to the scene and is a worthwhile addition.

Thank you Dan...that is very nice. I did something similar with Nik's Viveza but then I deleted it because I thought more drama with the clouds a bit darker. I see your point.

    Thank you, Rita.

    I appreciate your commenting.

No, I didn't. He goes icky if I offer a kiss in public. A hug is good. I should have thought of it but I was having such a good time trying to make him laugh in between my shots...I think he enjoyed that more until I go overboard, then I get that sweet sharp look.

Thank you, William -- if this rain will stop, I will drag him to the Chinese Cultural Show at the same place today. Thanks for passing by and commenting even tho it is tongue-in-cheek.

Thanks Geoff -- you are very kind...my last building shot when we went to Tennessee was so crooked I put a tilt-shift in my wish list for my birthday to lessen my straightening editing. I must have been lucky in this one as all I did was go for the straightening tool in Photoshop and it was OK...I got my wish so I have to practice using it soon...thank you for passing by to comment. 'Appreciate it very much.

Nice series. I like #1 best, including the man. I did find the statue rather peculiar though, though not your picture of it. I did wonder if the B&W conversion obscures the outline of the head and arm.

Thank you very much to both of you, Nandy and John...that's my husband, Bill who must be tired of carrying my camera bag. That bag and him had walked in far places so when he wants to sit down, I just smile (Nandy, your quote in Mindscape, just smile...)

Anyway John, here is the original there isn't much difference apart from the colour but sometimes, I just want to convert to B/W because I feel it is too busy...(?)

Interesting series Izzie. I prefer the colour version of the statue as well fro the reasons John R gives above but it is a pity about the sign in the BG. Peculiar pose but strangely attractive.

Nice series Izzie. I am trying to figure the statue out. The bandeau is suppose to be covering her chest? Poor girl!

From what I can tell, the one who did the statue haven't seen a girl or a woman in his life ever that wears a bathing suit or something. I gazed at this image for a long time, believe me...trying to determine why the top is OK but the belly button is too pronounced and doesn't seem to be covered by anything, then the shape at the bottom that cover the rest of her body. Strange. I did not know whether it was worth photographing or not and sharing here or not. Thanks for looking and commenting and sharing your thoughts , Maybe John (2) thought it was that strange too...'Appreciate your comments.
