Which one?

I went back to an old image and changed the processing a bit. The image on the left is the original processing and the image on the right is the new processing...



I used NIK Viveza for the redo.

Opened the shadows a bit on his face and increased the structure. Increased the structure on the beard. Reduced the brightness on his hat. Reduced the brightness and increased the structure of the back of the rug he is working on. Reduced the shadows and increased the structure on his hand and his shirt just below the hand. Selected the red carpet to the rear, brightened parts of it, increased saturation and increased structure. Reduced the brightness and increased structure of his shirt a bit.

I think that is all that I did...

personal taste time. I would have left the background closer to the original. But then I'm into a high contrast mood of late.

Richard, I prefer the first image. That is only my opinion.

I too prefer the image on the left. The image on the right has a noticeable colour cast.

Usually my first choice is best. That was true in this case...

The color cast Manfred mentions really throws off the skin tones. So, my vote also goes to the first one.

The only thing that really matters is why you prefer the second image. What is your reasoning?

+1 from me, in particular, bringing down the highlight in the back of the carpet he is working makes it less distracting and brings out the texture.

The only thing that really matters is why you prefer the second image. What is your reasoning?

I rarely have a specific reason for a preference such as this. I just find that #2 gives me a better overall impression than #1. I also find myself disagreeing with Shadowman; I do not find #2 dull ! I cannot see any colour cast either, at least not on my tablet.
