Butterflies, and a few other species

Nothing particularly new with the butterfies, except that there seems to have been a pickup in numbers this last week or so.....

Some butterflies seem to photograph particularly well with wings closed and #2 is certainly the best of all these images for me.

That is a well marked Flower Bug. Some can appear a bit dark and drab. They are known for piercing human skin, particularly if handled.

ps. Is the Meadow Brown a Gatekeeper? The wing eye spot has two small white dots, but of unequal size. I know that Meadow Browns can occasionally have a second white dot, like Gatekeepers, so I'm not really sure about this one.

Having consulted the book; yes I agree with Meadow Brown, but one of the two white dots variation.

Very nice set. I agree that #2 is the prettiest! They are all pretty good though.

Thanks all... and that Flower bug relly sucks!

Is the Meadow Brown a Gatekeeper?
I had the same dilemma Geoff and it was the spots that confused me.
