    Re: Moonrise

Good question, Brian. And the shortest way to answer it is that I cheated…
My initial intention was to take a shot when the moon was fully visible low at the horizon, so I was at the spot well before the moonrise with my tripod extended about 1 meter. Using the Sun Surveyor app I positioned my camera in the right direction set to Manual mode, matrix metering.
I was expecting big reddish and not very bright moon, as it usually appears in very low position, but due to some atmospheric circumstances (low clouds or fog in the distance) in was barely visible and I had no choice, but to wait.
When the moon finally appeared it was too bright, compared to the rest of the scene, so metering, as well as focusing has become a challenge.
My solution to the problem was to take one shot in matrix metering focused to infinity for the whole scene (with the moon burned out) and then to take another one in spot metering, focusing at the moon.
I combined the two shots in CS6.

Not at all. That's a perfectly legitimate means of capturing the moon when it appears as part of a landscape image. Well done.
