    I find a lot of butterflies actually look better from the side, like this one, than the conventional wings fully open scenes.

    Might consider using negative selective sharpening on the two flowers in the lower left corner foreground.

    Totally agree Geoff, but getting one in a suitable pose is another matter. The only times I've encountered an obliging 'fly it has always been a Red Admiral which is much more photogenic in "wings fully open" mode

    Getting absolutely square on to the subject in order to prevent some out of focus areas with a shallow focus depth is always a problem. So often they fly away while I am attempting to get myself into that perfect position. Which is doubly difficult when struggling to move a tripod in dense undergrowth.

    Dan I use and older P&S bridge camera (Panasonic FZ35) to take shots of the critters. As far as the bokeh I concentrate more on finding a good background that finding a good subject if that makes any since.
