Stockton Farms (big panorama)

This is a 13-image panorama that will print out at 20 x 81 inches (51 x 206 cm) @ 300 dpi. It's a whopper file (840M). I don't know how it will look here at such a reduced size.

I've driven past this location many times and admired the view of the gently rolling farmland from the top of the hill outside Stockton, Illinois. Yesterday, I drove to this location in fog and when I arrived, you could not see the farms. An hour later, the fog had burned off leaving a misty, hazy sky but revealing nice colors and shadows from the mid-morning sun. The crops are maturing into various colors and patterns. I especially like the undulating lines formed by the crops. I have a strong attachment to farming and farmers so a scene like this generates an emotional response in me.

This is uncropped; each image is overlapped 50% and photomerged in PS. Shot with a Canon 1Ds3 with a 70-200 f/2.8 @ 150mm, 1/250 sec, f/8.0 @ ISO 100, from a leveled tripod. C&C welcomed.

That's a lovely scene (farms are part of my history and lifeblood). The buildings in the centre ground give us a good focal point and do break up the scene wonderfully well.

That is one to be very proud of indeed.

Beautiful. Add in a few mountains, and I would have thought you took that here in the Skagit Valley.

Thank you for the compliments. There is a gentle, cone-shaped hill behind the right-hand farm. In the full size image, there is cow standing on the summit. It's invisible at this size. The blank, hazy sky detracts from the image. What cropping recommendation would you suggest (if any).

I haven't decided how I'll print this. It looks great at a large size. I thought I might break this into three panels, displayed close together. What do you think of this idea?

I can see why you like this scene, Paul. Lovely rolling farm country. The image is nicely composed. Needs to be viewed much larger than the posted version to show the detail.
