Dawn granaries

One of those instances where patience and being prepared pays off. Of course, most of the time I am thwarted, just enough success to keep me going.

There was a tiny crack in the clouds on the eastern horizon. You can see a wider area on the lower right of the image, by the time it got to where the sun was rising it was just a sliver. The sun just peeked through for about ten seconds to illuminate the granaries and ground. Fortuitous really. Before and after the ground was too dark relative to the brighter sky to get an image that would not require a bit more processing to be of use. So i stood there in the cold wind (minus 2 C with a 60 kph "breeze") waiting on the off chance this would happen.

The joys of the landscape photographer. At least the Gods smiled upon you, you got the chance. As you know, there are many days when you stand there in the cold wind and the off chance never does materialise, so you go home; cold and without a picture.

The last three tries for a particular shot I was trying to get were sabotaged by bad weather; clouds moving in from nowhere, clouds hugging the horizon and not letting the direct sunlight hit the subject and of course, clear blue skies with no clouds whatsoever.

Eventually Mother Nature gives me an occasional win.

At least better than several weeks ago, when I had the exact opposite experience. One cloud, about 1% of the sky, directly over where the sun rose. Stayed there until I gave up in disgust.

Beautiful image! One of the joys of chasing sunrise and sunset shots is the feeling you get when it pays off. Sometimes I think a good parka, hat and gloves is as important as the camera.
