A nice tree. I just wonder why you used f13. If you're there again try a wider aperture, see how far you can go with eliminating the background.

Good point about the poor english. I try to avoid this sort of thing because I am so prone to it.

I may have overestimated the depth of field needed. The main intent was to get the full depth of the trunk from back to front. However including the old train station is not a problem as it gives context. Anyone who knows Vancouver reasonably well will be able to place the tree. Which may not be a detriment.

Will be worth experimenting with different settings in April when I revisit the tree. And primarily my son (just to make clear about the which entity takes priority)

The funniest part of your comment is that it was wet and rainy all morning. I darted out when I saw a small break in the cloud (the one that usually covers the entire sky) would potentially allow the sun to shine on the tree.

I looked at this thread because from the heading I assumed it was further information about your wife's reaction to your recent purchase. Which by the way should allow you to shoot at f22 on a very rainy day.

It would be interesting to see the tree taken a very late afternoon or early morning on a fine day so stronger shadows would accentuate the textures and contours.

What a wonderful tree. The old train station isn't an area I go into very often but, might be worth a stop to check out this beauty.
I like that you left just a hint of the station building in the image.

What a very expressive image. It seems also to be a metaphore for me, very gnarly and cranky and misshapen .
I would have liked to see more depth of field and if you are able to do this in pp would like to see the result.

It uses advanced wavelet processing to help with out of focus and/or camera motion.

Probably of little interest to most people.

Good shot. I struggle with this frequently. Most of these character trees are in open places with unpleasant backgrounds. If you frame just the tree you end up with something abstract. Be nice to see more examples.
