I do believe my skills have improved thanks to tall the mentoring I have gotten here.

    Brian,

What do you want the final outcome to be, B & W or color; granted the initial workflow will probably be the same unless there is something in particular you want to stand out in the final composition?

Brian - why don't you try reprocessing it? I find that both my approach and tastes have evolved and I do occasionally go back and reprocess older images. Often they look quite different than the first time I did them. Sometimes the differences are subtle and other times the differences are quite noticeable.

We all change our photographic approaches, both at capture and in post. That's all part of the journey.

Brian, I shoot in RAW and save my unedited images in that format (CR2 for Canon) as well as saving the image in a MASTER file (n PSD format) which includes color correction, density correction, contrast correction and virtually all corrections needed for the final print, except cropping and output sharpening.

This way I can go back to the MASTER file image and crop and size it in any way that I want, without having to "reinvent the wheel" and do all the color and density correction, etc., etc., all over again.

As an example, I use 1:1 (square) images for our rescue website but, if I need an image formatted for a calendar, I just go back to the MASTER PSD of that image, crop it and apply output sharpening as needed.

I can also, and frequently do, go back to the original RAW file and edit it with new techniques that I have learned or with new software that I have found...

It was late last night when I posted. Please accept my apologies for being less than clear?

Manfred, this is a new edit.

John, I had no intention of going B&W but now that you mention it.....

Richard, Since Phase one gifted me version 11 I have moved my workflow from 'Catalogues' to 'Sessions'. There is undoubtedly a way to emulate what you're doing. Though i shall have to look for it.

I'll see if I can find it in the files.

Maybe I don't understand the conversation, but I prefer the original. It appears sharper with more vivid colors.
What is it I'm not seeing?
I do like the subject and the photo.

If you are seeing the original as the big frame then you are seeing exactly what you should and voicing your preference.
