It's Islay, but nothing to do with malt whisky!

We called in to this establishment to book a table in the restaurant for dinner the following evening. Luckily as we had been out and about on the Island I had the camera kit in the car. Having asked permission to make an image. This is the result, as always your thoughts, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Wow Peter - great shot. I don't recall seeing anything like that in any of the places we have eaten in Islay - where was it (and was the food as good as the photography?).

Signore Fibonacci would be proud of this lovely spiral.

Bill thanks for taking time to look and comment.

This image was taken in the Islay House Hotel (LINK) which was recommended to us by the lady who we stay with when on Islay. The building itself was the star as far as I was concerned, as can be seen from the first image on their website that shows the exterior of the building. The building both internally and externally is very photogenic.

As to whether the food was as good as the photography, I shall only say I preferred the service, food choices and quality of the offerings at the Bridgend Hotel.
But to be fair to the Islay House Hotel maybe.... our visit wasn't indicative of their best standard. They were in the process of hiring staff when we visited. Hopefully providing they've managed to take on people and they are given the correct training it should improve the level of service.

I hope you didn't fall over Brian.
Once I spotted the staircase I just had to make an image of it. Sadly I didn't quite sit the camera dead centre when composing the image (very difficult without an articulating screen), I had the camera on the top of a circular radiator at the base of the staircase. Had the radiator not been there I would have dispensed with any personal embarrassment to just lay down on my back on the floor to compose the image .

Often tried but not often as well as this. Striking shot Peter with a spot on exposure.

Lovely image, well spotted and captured. The only thing I find distracting is the colour from the lamp. Have you thought of a b+w version ?

I do have a B&W conversion Peter. But I'm never sure/comfortable with processing in B&W. Here it is:-

i think the b+w is a more striking image.

Much to my surprise I prefer the original. I was not sure about the off centre lamp but having seen the mono I think that it adds warmth to the scene.

The lamp struck me as well and had it been anywhere else, it might have been a problem. However sitting at the start of the spiral as it is, you get away with it because my eye then naturally follows the spiral into the comp - IMHO. BTW, the mono conversion is pretty good. Prefer the colour though.

I think this image works well in both colour and monochrome because it has a solid composition.
