Holy Island Boat Hulls

There are very few clinker built wooden fishing boats left (if any) on Holy Island. Many have at some time be used as a roof on the sort of boat shed you can see in the middle distance.

Dan, yes relatively so. There has been a small crop but not much and the zoom lens was set at 19.3 mm, 21mm full frame equivalent.

Not sure what you use for editing, but perhaps adding a gradient filter to darken the top of the frame to and another to darken the bottom right would keep more emphasis on the subject might work...

Nice subject John. I find the detail in the prow of the boat gets a bit lost against the cottage, particularly on the left near the windows. I wonder if it was more distinct in colour? I like the detail in the texture of the grass though, and I wonder if you took another shot from a lower angle.

Arno, I have already applied a gradient top and bottom but obviously not to the extent you suggest. I use Photoshop CC but when it comes to dodging and burning gradients I use Pixel Genius's Photokit 2 - a simple but brilliant piece of software. I live in constant fear of Photoshop leaving it behind because it is so useful.

Greg, see what you mean. Had I spotted it during the conversion, I might have done something about it because the inside of the boat is painted blue against the brown (ish) colour of the building. As for going back for a lower viewpoint, I'm currently raiding the archives due to a bout of sciatica, so not getting out much. This was taken several years ago so I doubt this scene remains.
