    Event Judging

The photo club I belong to held its annual Bruce Wilson Print Competition. The competition is a series of five B&W prints that have a common theme or story. Rather than use the usual CAPA judging process with a jury of three judges, this competition is judged by a high profile photographer or curator from the Ottawa area. This year the club decided to record the competition so that what the judge pointed out could be used as training material for the club members.

Only 15 of approximately 200 club members were asked to enter this competition.

This year's judge was Michael Tardioli; not a household name, but someone who is generally recognized as one of the top print makers in the world. Michael used to be Yousef Karsh's print maker (near the end of Karsh's career), so as you can imagine he had to be top notch to be hired to do his work.

Here is the first video that came out and it featured my entry. It runs for just over 4 minutes (it's posted on YouTube)..

It will give people a view of what an extremely qualified curator and judge looks for in a set of images:

Not yet - we are still waiting for the materials from the other photographers. In a print competition, digital versions are not always required and we would like to incorporate them in to the video presentation. The club slows down over the summer months and next week is the last meeting of the year. It starts up again in early September and the training really starts at the end of September or early October, so the rest should be done by that point.
