Some very nice clear spirits distilled here too.

I like the colours, forms of bottle and composition.

Being picky, is there some smugding going at the bottom left of the Eden Mill?

A nicely thought out and crafted still-life Bill. Adding the herbs and the cut orange to the image adds a nice touch.

I agree with David, there are some artifacts that you have missed. There is an even more apparent one between the neck and shoulder of the middle bottle where your selection skills have let you down a bit.

Manfred and David - thanks for the feedback - yes you are both correct but it's not quite a finished work yet. I was surprised by how well it turned out all things considered. I have "upgraded" the blackout in the den where I do my edits and occasional still life, This one was shot painting with an LED source inside a diffuser.

I would not have guessed at your lighting technique. It does give you a large light source for that nice, soft lighting in your image, but that really would be too much work fore me!

That being said, the one reason I shoot with flash is that ambient light is not an issue as I can overpower it with my lights and I definitely use a technique where I position a flash behind a scrim (i.e. diffuser) as a light source as it does give me more unusual lighting than what we get out of standard studio lighting equipment.

    The Other Scotch

Oh... the Botanist, distilled in “Ugly Betty” at Bruichladdich on Islay ( I seem to remember posting an image of Ugly Betty on here some time ago) and that lovely Harris Distillery patterned bottle. Two of my favourite Islands.
Then you have old fashioned stone bottle that make up the trio.
I shall look forward to seeing how you progress with this work. Well done so far.

Without hijacking your thread too much Bill. When I was in the Harris Distillery they suggested using frozen Grapefruit segments rather than ice The Other Scotch

Thanks Peter. I remember your great series - especially "Ugly Betty". The Harris folks recommend drinking it straight with a few drops of their kelp extract. Right now, in ascending order, the gin doesn't work for me in a traditional G&T but was nice with Angostura bitters, and the flavour augurs well for the whisky when it is released. The gorgeous bottle was best, with the pattern and blue tinge in the glass ...

I have reshot the group, still a little P&P to go, but hope to post an update tomorrow.

Other Scotch take 2: Re-shot and edited.

    The Other Scotch

Possibly needs a wee tweak on the glass of the neck of the Botanist bottle - looks OK on my monitor but is well-nigh invisible in the uploaded image.

    Re: The Other Scotch

The second version is much cleaner and more effective. I'm still not sure if I find the idea of kelp in gin sounds all that appealing to me.

As a former scuba diver who got himself entangled in kelp more than once, I don't have the most pleasant memories of the stuff.

Very impressive work, Bill. Can you tell us exactly what you did to get from #1 to #2?
