Boston Holocaust Memorial - Remix
Another image from a few years ago. My wife and I were in the Boston area for a few days and did a walking tour of some of the historical areas of the city.
One of the areas that we saw was the Holocaust Memorial. It was very crowded and I could not get a decent shot without a lot of people in it, and that somehow had a negative impact on the solemnity of the structure. I pointed my camera up to cut out the people, but with all the glass and strange light, it was not as effective as I had hoped with strange reflections, a very gray, textureless sky, etc..
With improved PP skills, I have re-imaged the shot to be more effective.

Re: Boston Holocaust Memorial - Remix
I like the composition but the greenery on the left is not evident enough for my liking compared to the other three sides.
Cheers Ole

Re: Boston Holocaust Memorial - Remix
I don't have a good enough memory of the version you posted earlier to compare in my mind, but I like this one.
The uneven darkness of the trees doesn't bother me.
One thing I notice is that you didn't use to top 20% of the tonal range. I assume that was deliberate. Still, I played around with it, and I think pulling the white point down adds some punch without changing the mood created by the dark greens. I tried pulling the input white point down to values between 240 and 230. I think if it were mine, I would pull it down at least to 235.

Re: Boston Holocaust Memorial - Remix
Thanks Ole & Dan:
Ole - I can't do much about the way the trees were planted and the light falls, so I did a bit of burning down to try to control the hot spots on the left. There was a hot spot that I partially controlled with a bit of copying and pasting.
Thanks Dan - I usually go close to full darks to full brights, but here I thought a lower contrast, more subdued look might be more appropriate given the subject matter. I have tried your suggestion and it works, so I expect I will go that way, but have also pulled the mid-point down a bit more to keep closer to the mood I am looking for.
1. Here is the reworked version:
2. This is the original version that I did about 5 years ago:

Wow, Manfred, I really love what you have done with it! Filling in that central square was a genius move. I echo what Raymond and Nandakumar above have said
PS - will show my wife, who will also appreciate it.
