Very nice indeed. Well done Trev and thanks for posting it here for us to enjoy.
Excellent image
Thanks Bill and Nandakumar!
This was part of an exercise I set for an on-line camera group I help manage: 1-1-1
One hour, one enclosure, one image
The idea was to go to the zoo, stay for one hour, at one enclosure, and produce one good image.
Most people who go to the zoo browse from enclosure to enclosure, not staying for long and relying on the chance of getting a great shot. This exercise was directed to encourage a focus on one location, observe behaviour to learn about the animal and thus get better images.
I actually stayed on afterwards and repeated the exercise again at a different location, during which I got this one.
Does that mean you should take only one image or take any number of images and present the best?
Actually either. The output was one photo. I would expect most people would take several - who know what will be the one? I took quite a few actually, but a part of the exercise was just observation. I was a great experience to just sit and really actively view animals and their behaviours. There were times when a photo was not practical, but that was fine - it was as much about the experience as the photo.
Hi Richard:
Nice image of the orangutan! I went back to the zoo yesterday and took my EOS R6 with the RF24-240 to see how it would behave. As expected I had to do quite a bit of cropping for some images, and when I went to the orangutan enclosure they were all sitting in the shade, right behind a very grubby, thick window. Still, I managed to get the odd shot. They are among my favourite creatures.
