Serena is getting big! She'd love to play with your gang. She really enjoys playing with big dogs.

The Great Pyr is really a unique dog in that they are defenders of their property and their flock but, unlike other guardian dogs, they are not aggressive. Their technique in warding off intruders, both animal and human is to challenge them by posturing and barking.

    Alert guardian

This combined with their large size is usually sufficient to make predators like coyotes think twice before entering a compound. As far as human intruders... I certainly would not enter an area guarded by a full grown Great Pyrenees. But, even as a 60-pound puppy - Serena would make me think twice about challenging her.

    Alert guardian

Her first self-imposed duty when she goes out in the morning is to make a sweep of our fence line to ensure that her property is safe...

    Alert guardian

It is only after she determines there are no unwanted intruders that she stops to go potty... Since my property is well fenced (I installed DIY coyote rollers at the top of my chain link fence) and since, in the last 10 or 15 years, there have only been solitary coyotes roaming in my area (no longer packs) - my little dogs and my chickens are pretty safe from predators...

I think that she is a beautiful girl and she has stolen my heart...

Beautiful dog. She has that "always on duty" look in all but the last photo

Thanks... I think she is beautiful too! She has the capacity to remember who is OK and who is not... She is fast friends with our gardener and the guy who cleans the pool. They are O.K. as well as anyone whom I introduce to Serena... However, strangers get warned off until my wife or I introduce them...

I just noticed a Great Pyrenees trait the other day in Serena. Inherent in the breed is that they will place themselves between a stranger and their person until introduced to the stranger. There is no barking or growling, just a big dog there to defend its person from any possible harm...
