    Nicely seen, Daniel.

I do approve of AI as a means to an end but I still wish I could capture stuff in-camera well with minimal post-processing ...

    Re: Birth of AI

For a long time computational photography and AI were the bailiwicks of cell phones, but now some of that is appearing in conventional camera technology, especially in the correction of optics. The Canon RF24-240 lens, without correction, has some major issues, but with the in-camera and PP profile corrections its images appear amazingly good. When Tamron introduced the 18-300 lens for the Fuji and Sony crop sensor bodies, I was sceptical: such wide ranging zooms usually offer convenience at a significant price in terms of image quality. However, I was intrigued to find that reviews consistently lauded the quality of the lens and finally I broke down and bought one - it IS amazing.

What this suggests is that we may be entering a new cycle of optical enhancements via firmware/software that will significantly the enhance performance of lenses that usually have challenges: I am thinking of not only lenses with big focal ranges, but ultra-wide fields of view.
