I'm no expert on identification, so you'll have to wait for Geoff to find out if these guesses are right, but I think the top one is either a robber fly or a dance fly (I can't tell them apart) and that the bottom is a bluette damselfly.

The first one is one of the Empis species (see that very long beak like tube for a mouth) but it doesn't look quite right for tessellata so I would suspect Empis livida but I really need to see the wing veins to be certain.
Also the damselfly really needs a side angle shot, but I would suspect an Azure Damselfly.
