    Nabucco

    Nabucco

The celebrated Chorus of the Hebrew slaves from Nabucco, this is the 2025 production by LabOpéra24 in Périgueux. Musical director Chloé Meyzie, superb, innovative production by Gersende Michel.

I photographed a dress rehearsal here rather than a public performance, more scope to move around without upsetting the audience !

    Regarding the first image.
The image dazzles with its palette of deep blues and some vibrant greens, with lighting that highlights every expression and detail from the left to the far end.
The composition is balanced and engaging, gently guiding the eye across the stage. A visually rich moment, where colour, light and stage presence blend together in great harmony.
The detail is striking from the texture of the clothing to the expressions on each face, everything is revealed with clarity and intent.
The real trees, the suspended geometric structure and the theatrical lighting creates a stage setting of great visual sophistication. Great scenario pretty well done !

    The shot is superb !

...and another one, this time from the balcony, further back and higher to get an overall view.

    Hi David,

This is probably a silly question, but the stage lighting is so good on the first, and soloists, that I wonder whether the event is being recorded for "TV", and lit by the crew recording.

In my (UK TV broadcast) experience, theatre lighting directors usually lit the stage with too much contrast for our cameras - but this was back in the eighties when recording/broadcasting stage shows was far less commonplace, and the camera technology has improved considerably since then to.

    Great shots, well done.

No Dave, this was not a TV crew doing the lighting, but the lighting was being tightly managed by the producer, Gersende Michel, who is really excellent - a name to watch in the future I think. Also, I systematically under exposed and later masked the main figures to lower the highlights and raise the shadows, reducing contrast in effect. Without that the white costumes would have all been burned out.

Looking back I see I accidentally posted the same image twice, this was one of those I intended to post :
