Hey folks,
I was out hiking with my daughter today a got a few shots in. Unfortunately, even though I tried to compensate for the clouds & sky they still got blown out. :( I don't this worked very well as an HDR though.
The views from on top of this mountain park are simply awesome as well as the lake itself.

Hi Jack,
You have a number of choices with shots like these ...
1. Expose for the highlights (so the clouds don't blow) and then bring up the shadows (preferably using the RAW converter fill light control). Could be done with a JPEG, but I think you'd be struggling a bit.
2. Take 2 shots - one exposing for the sky, the other for the foreground, and then combine them in Photoshop (doesn't have to be as a "Merge to HDR" action - a simple layer mask will do the job. If done with a tripod then so much the better, but even hand held is quite "doable"
3. Use a GND filter
So - up the mountain you go, and shoot them again please! :)

Is that better? The kayacker is moving so she would be out of focus. I took these free hand :(, the unstacked images would be sharper but then I'd lose detail somewhere in the image...:(

IMO not much better and way too bright...the rocks remind me of Dover. hehe:):):)
meh...I bet if u had a tripod it would have looked great....
and i would have cropped on the left where the rock face and on the right where the house ends...and trhown rocks at teh canoeists until they left...
Thats a very pretty spot...I bet you cna get soem good sunset or sunrise reflections off the water shots....:):):)
