Seeing them as prints is so much more satisfying than seeing them online or in magazine (which is how they were originally meant to be seen - McCullin worked for the Sunday Times magazine). They are hard hitting (starvation in Biafra, war in Vietnam, the troubles in Northern Ireland; the industrial wasteland of Northern England + some of latest work, the landscapes of his rural home). He was in many of the places where suffering and warfare informed the news in the 1960s and 1970s.
Wonderful photographs.
Wow, just looked up the Wiki . . .
"In 1968, his Nikon camera stopped a bullet intended for him" !!

This excited me as I live very near Dumfries :). Then I remembered that you live in Scotland and I live in Virginia so we are unlikely to meet up :(.

Sorry about that. Didn't realise that there was a 'Dumfries' anywhere else in the world.

May I ask how Virginians pronounce it?
I think it rhymes with "geese" in Scotland . .

Cheers Ole
Re: Don McCullin exhibition
I didn't know about him, and also read is Wikipedia bio. An impressive person who started out in life with little education and made great achievements.
On a similar note, I saw the World Press Photo 2017 exhibition in Madrid a few weeks ago. Many of its exhibits are also hard-hitting and worth seeing. The greatest suffering I experienced there though was the stuffy and hot room it was in - one way to stop the people lingering too long...
