Alight at Night - Upper Canada Village Church
The last time I tried shooting during the Alight at Night event at Upper Canada Village, I could not get a decent angle on the village church. This time I brought my 24mm perspective correcting lens along and I got the shot I wanted.
Christ Church was built in 1837 in Mouilnette, one of the 'lost villages" that were flooded in the mid-1950's when the St Lawrence Seaway was constructed. It was moved to the Upper Canada Village site before the area was flooded. As a scuba diver I have visited some of the underwater ghost towns; the foundations and other stone structures are still preserved at the bottom of the St Lawrence River.

Nice capture and background on the area.

Very well exposed image. A difficult thing to do.

Thanks Donald - Actually this is a 3-shot HDRI image done in Photoshop. I was planning to hand-blend this shot, but did a quick HDRI test in Photoshop and liked what it gave me.
I shot at a -1 exposure compensation, so the shots that I used here are effectively -3, -1, +1. That gave me decent exposures of the Christmas lights themselves (-3), a good general exposure for a night time shot (-1) and finally one that brought out the detail in the foreground (+1). For this series I bracketed all my shots because of the challenging lighting conditions. A bit of dodging, burning and general PP work too to finish of the image.

In the hands of someone who knows how to use it, it'll work. Like I said, an challenging exposure, very well done.
