Get me outa here!

I spotted this mob near a café and took a few shots before the farmer turned up. I was concerned that he might get the impression that I was some sort of animal rights person. The sheep looked very well cared for. C&C most welcome.

Ole - You really have this love of the backs of subjects; whether it be people or animals. Sorry, having the rear end of three sheep staring me in the face really does nothing for me and from what I have seen, most other people have a similar view.

You did have a strong image there; two of the animals are looking right at you. Had you concentrated on them, you could have gotten an image that works a lot better. Faces, especially the eyes, is where you get viewers to connect with your subject, regardless if you are shooting people or animals.

Agree completely with Manfred M - sometimes "the crop" is the right thing...

After the cropping you have a meaningful subject that is well captured, the choice of blk/wht is nice to emphasize the fine details.

The other face is also worthy of isolation, probably a bit more compassionate :)

I actually did a crop not unlike Manfred's but I rejected it for some reason.

Once you've taken the shot, all we can do is suggest crops.

My view is that the problem is with the original shot. In a scene like this, I usually try to get at least 5 or 6 different shots taken from different perspectives, different framing and different compositional approaches. Often when I get back and review the shots, my original concept does not end up being the strongest image.

If you want the rear ends to dominate, all is fine. if you want the faces to dominate, you have a problem, and cropping is only a partial fix because if you remove some of the rear ends, you lose one of the two interesting faces.

That aside, I would up the contrast, even though you have a good tonal range.
