St Monans Harbour Wall

This place has been photographed so many times by others but this is my first attempt. Not the conditions I was hoping for but not the worst. Tell me what you think and any tips welcome.

Excellent captures, especially the first one

The blown-out section of the sky detracts a bit from the first shot. I think it might have been better also if you had either raised or lowered the horizon so it doesn't cut across the middle of the frame.

I like the colours of the second image very much, and the way the "zizzy" clouds echo the "zizzy" shape of the harbour wall. The bit cutting across the lower right corner interrupts the beautiful green of the sea unnecessarily.

Tip: don't worry about what other people have done before you, do your own thing, :-)

Indeed it has Ken, and that sky could be the key to your one standing out from the pack (which absolutely includes my efforts as I'm too old and non-athletic to venture to the top of the wall!).

The first one we see is the better of the two, and the blown highlights are dealt with in your reply to Greg.

Perhaps now turn your attention to the breakwater wall, try selectively lifting the shadows and contrast a bit to mke it stand out more?

You say the conditions were not what you were hoping for - was it the light? It may be worth looking at a non-long exposure version if you took one.

With the first image I would be tempted to try a crop from the bottom. Which would mean either going square or losing a similar amount from the sides, particularly the right side? Which would allow you to retain all of that excellent sky.
