Wash day

I captured this image on the weekend at a local Historical site. Didn't do a lot of editing on it, just minor adjustments, as I quit liked the way it was. My one concern is that I am not sure if I should lighten it up a bit around the bottom of the bucket. Feedback, good and bad, is welcomed.

I kind of like the way you did it, Rita...I think that one is perfect and straightforward -- an item ready to be taken outside or waiting to be taken outside or just resting there for a while, while other chores were being done. It has a story, Rita, whatever it has...

Jean, thank you for showing what you were suggesting with the WB. Although it is different than what I saw I
like it too.

Izzie, that is what drew me to it. It was just sitting on the floor like it was waiting to be picked up by whoever was going to be doing the laundry. At this place there are people wandering around in period costumes. I so hoped that one would come into the building so I could have them carry the bucket off but no one came.

A different take and I also played with the WB but I like the more natural tones you show. I had a few issues with the lights and mid-tones and knocked down the brights on the cloth by a stop but increased the midtone values by a 1/2 stop just to get some nice rim lighting. There is something odd going on in the BG but I chose to ignore.

Rita - I like Jean's approach. Your original does not have enough separation from the background and the bucket just fades into it too much.

On the other hand, just lightening up the whole area gives you a totally different look. I'm not someone who tends to go for the dark moody looking images,

Thanks all for the comments and help. I do agree that there needs to be more separation of the bucket. Posting another edit I have done that I feel is better than the initial post. It is a bit lighter without going too light, closer to what Chris posted.

Talk about fifty shades of grey. All of the above clearly have merit in their own right but only in the context of being a different take on your original image. Truthfully, I think your last version (post 12) hits the mark for me. It's a very nice study.

Rita, I really like the original - and i like what you have done on your edit, my only change would be to reduce the floor down darker a bit to bring the focus back onto the bucket and content. i know the floor is there so i dont need to see it in detail, I like it dark :)

Thanks for commenting Mark. I am still going to play with this image to refine it but I won't get a chance today.

Think its one that everyone will have a 'version' view of it but end of the day it really has to be how you 'saw' it -I think looking at the comments - there is nothing materially wrong with it in any real way, its mainly just personal preferences - we learn and grow :-)

Hi Rita :) I really like this version as the BG is not visible but the subject is bright enough. I also like the WB, it is warmer but not too much.
