2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Wow! Fourth quarter already; where did the summer go.
The previous third quarter is here

Week 40 - Cloud approaching. Today was a misty start but eventually some hazy sunshine appeared; then more cloud started forming during the afternoon.

Beautiful Cirrus clouds in your first photo! Love to watch the sky change!
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Nice, I like the second as there's a bit more land included which helps draw the eyes up to the clouds.
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Hi Geoff - You live in a beautiful area! Both photos have me thinking I should be roaming the grounds to see what I can see. And then rest flat on my back and watch the clouds roll by! :) Nice!
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Thanks for the comments. I had to arrange the first image to miss the tops of a reedbed. If I included all of the reeds it would have detracted from the subtle tints of those thin clouds. With the second angle I was able to include more foreground without causing any clash with the clouds.

Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Thanks, Joe.
We have had some exceptionally mild and calm periods of weather this October so I am still photographing and recording insect life well past the time when I usually have to stop. So that has put my editing of other subjects on hold for a little while and caused me to fall behind with posting. The images have been shot but I need a bit more time to finish the job.

Week 40 - Going for a beer at South Pool. Took a few hours off for the last boat trip of the year with some friends who were visiting an old pub at the end of one of the small creeks. Only had my little Fuji X20 with me but I did what I could with it.

Outside the pub. Pity about the roof scaffolding.

Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Good Photos. :)
Could you clone the scaffolding out of your pic? It would be a little tedious but it might be worth it.
I chuckled seeing the little duck sign so you wouldn't want to crop him out of the photo.
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
I was looking at finding some angle to exclude that scaffolding when I took the shot, Sandy, but this was the best available angle. Removal with cloning may be possible with some masking but there isn't much in the way of clean source material and what happens with those telephone wires? Maybe when I have more time . . .
The duck symbols, around the outside and inside, are used because behind the building there is an old mill stream where ducks paddle around. It is an old low headroom building with flagstones and where nothing is straight or level.

Attempting to catch up with my photo editing work.
Week 41 - Salcombe Harbour. A quick shot with that Fuji X20 on what looked like a promising scene but turned out to have a lot of difficult elements.

Week 42 - Last Orders at the Kings Arms. The landlord of a local pub has just retired and this was his last day. Closing at 6 pm, so I tried to capture something of the general scene along with the last customers.

I tried to get a bit atmospherically arty as well as just shooting the actual events.

The pub is now closed but there are plans to reopen it under new management next year.

An interesting if busy photo [post #12]. What a collection of mooring buoys!
At first I thought it strange that DH95 was moored so close to the shore then realized it's underway through a narrow marked channel.
In,the more distant part of the harbour, are there people standing on paddle boards?
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
A couple more images. It is a typical old English establishment with dim lighting, low ceilings and little space to move around in order to compose shots so I knew this would be a challenge. Real life shots with nothing posed.

I enjoyed the pub photos, particularly the first and last in post 13 and the second in #15. Was this your local watering hole?
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Week 43 - Harvesting fodder beet at Motherhill Farm. About half a mile along the road from where I live farmers were lifting beet which will be used as sheep feed during the winter.

Canon 70-200 lens. I was attempting to capture some clouds as well as the machinery.
A closer shot of the machinery but still looking for some attractive background clouds.

Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
In the harbour scene, Bruce there are several people on paddle boards in the far distance; that is something which seems to be getting more popular although it doesn't appeal to me.
I have regularly visited the Kings Arms over many years, Bruce, although I have never been exclusive to just one establishment. I can remember four previous landlords over the past 40 years.
Re: 2018 Project 52 by Geoff F - 4th Quarter
Hi Geoff - You've posted a lot of interesting photos and well done as usual. In post #13, I like the last one best because it shows the retiring manager in discussion and his facial expression is pleasant. :) I can imagine he is rather sad about leaving but happy to be done!
In post #15 - again I like the close up of the discussion that is occurring.
I also chuckled about the sign "Mind the step".... as I was wondering if I was going to be told to behave myself! Just my weird sense of humor. <lol>
In post #17 - you are right, the clouds are filled with interesting colors and shapes. The last photo of that series shows the machinery so that I can see more of what the farmer and his workmate are doing. I like that. And I also learned a new thing because I didn't know sheep ate beets!

Hi Geoff
Week 41 post 12 is very interesting but has so many elements my eyes just can't stay focused 😀
