Sunrise and Sunset Pictures

Hello everyone,
I would like to start a thread similar to the landscape thread. I would use the same basic instructions as the landscape thread but with a few changes.
My Idea is to have a thread for SUNSETS and SUNRISES. I think it is something everyone can be involved in because everyone has one each day.

Sunrise or Sunset - Please post them here


There are only a few guide lines I kindly ask you to follow when you post your images:

1. The sunset/rise where the photography was taken should be identified.

2. One image by entry only. (this will allow us to comment. However, on commenting you can post more images to demonstrate what and how you do, why, etc.)

3. The author can - should - add comments to his/her own picture.

4. The image can also be of anything in the morning or evening as long as it involves sunrise/set.

I will start off by posting this sunset I took last night on the north end of Clearwater Beach, Florida.

May I advise you to think about yourself for just a moment while seeing the photo below?

I was so fortunate to be able to greet the rising sun on the way down to the southern part of Korea to attend a funeral ceremony. It was 20 minutes past 5:00, so early in the morning, and the sun was about to rise. I decided to re-route to "Upo Wetland, registered as World Heritage", and stopped a car, pulled my Canon camera then equipped with EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 lense. I shot several pics, some including sun and the others not. I rather prefer the wetland where the dreamy fog going around.

ps Actually, this is my first attempt to upload images. After I clicked Preview Post, I noticed the image size is way big. Can anyone let me know which JPG size will best fits to this Forum?

Fl/6.5mm, F/2.8. 1/100, ISO 64.

Not great photography, but a good sunset.

PS I seem to be having trouble with size here I resized this to 640x480 an it is still showing as to large.

One thing I will say about this exercise is that we will have a better opportunity of capturing sunset than sunrise. I mean come on, who get's up that early anyway. And for what, twenty minutes.

Great idea for the sunset thread....this is a panorama of the Glenelg jetty in Adelaide. There was no post processing done on this image. All colors you see are natural. I was just lucky to be there with a tripod at the time.

Taken: October 2010
Location: South end of Clearwater Beach looking at downtown Clearwater (Florida) as the sun comes up and the boats start heading out to the Gulf of Mexico for a day of fishing.

This is one I like. This display is uncropped and unprocessed. I've cropped it and processed it several ways, but haven't decided which way I like best.

Taken at the St Augustine pier one fine saturday morning.

Sunset in Homosassa, Florida. The structure in the right provides a focal point and nice reflection. I didn't have my tripod, but sharpness was not critical here. Photos of sunsets are usually better with some clouds, but the clear sky in this one gives it a calm feeling.

Lichfield UK evening shot. I gave up on these because of terrible lens flare which is solved with money, but I could clean a few.

This picture was taken from a two person kayak and is not as crisp as I would like, I never knew when or ware the dolphin was going to come up. I got lucky to get him in with the sun in the frame with this one.
