Introduce Myself
Hi,
My name is Max, I am retired and qualify as a grumpy old man.
I spent most of my life working in the Mining and Construction Industries, I have always been interested in photography since my Box Brownie days when I developed and printed myself.
Carted a couple of SLR's and a bag full of lens around for years (accounts for my now stooped gait)These days I just use an Olympus SP590 UZ, give me most of what I need without all the extra weight and expence.
I have to admit I struggle at times with the digital age, shooting with the old SLR's it was check the light meter and it told you what settings you could use with the ISO of your film, set your aperture and shutter speed get focus and bang you had it!
These days by the time I have worked my way through all the menus and settings I have just about forgot what it was I was going to shoot.
My other pass-times are Photo restoration, computers in general, (a software junkie) and DIY projects.
This looked like a nice friendly site to rest a spell, been a member of other forums but get put off by the amount of "flaming" that occures, I like to discuss Photography, not fight wars over it.

Re: Introduce Myself
Welcome to CiC, Max. We don't fight around here, we deal with it humorously. Just kidding, Sir.

Re: Introduce Myself
Jiro's remark reminds me of a teacher who retired several years ago who always spoke to e teacher's complaint about sexual harrassment. His response (and, I don't have any idea why it has stuck with me all these years, but it does fit what Jiro is saying) was: Report it - hell no, we score it!
We are indeed a kind lot, sometimes direct and to the point, sometimes with incredible wit, but always constructively and to an end which will make you the better photographer. I have never, either by Private Message or in an open forum been refused a lesson on
"how to do this, that or the other," and nor will you. Welcome to a very fun asylum.

Re: Introduce Myself
Max - you will get on just fine here
And a warm welcome from me down here in the south of the country.
I look forward to you posting some images and offering some advice on others - I'm sure you will have a great history of experiences we can learn from.
