I don't know what it looked like before, but it's very Beautiful now![]()
Generally, it's a very good shot, and I do like these dance shots as they do have a lot of verve. But in this one I'd like to see a little more light on the dancers face. The back of her legs are the brightest area of the shot, and keep drawing my eye. I suppose lighting conditions are difficult in a dance studio.
One, 3 foot by 6 foot windowabout 6 feet away was my entire lighting source. I will look at what I may be able to do to perhaps soften the light on her legs and draw more attention to her face....this has been a great image to apply all the new stuff on because it has all the challenges one faces in PP. Thanks for the input.
If anyone else has any ideas on making this difficult tonal shift, I am all ears.
Chris
I think you might struggle, there is such a tonal range that something had to give. It is such a shame because like all your dancer images it is very captivating (for all the right reasons I hasten to add). As an aside from the recovery of the top 1/3 of the image the edges around the dancer seem a little sharp to me (particularly on the hair and the front of the right leg). I always run over the outlines with the blur tool using a soft edged brush I find it helps to blend things together nicely.
Weird...I just figured out how to use the blur tool for exactly that same thing a few minutes ago while adjusting the tonal contrast. I did it using a lab sharpening technique because it only affects the gray layer. It allows for a decent sharpening without over pixelatng the whole image.
So, Steve and Rob..is this better? I did go in and clean up some edges I missed last night and reworked both her face reflection and the brightness on her legs.

Any chance, Chris that we could see the original image? Just asking.![]()
It works better for me Chris. I did not mention it last post but I think it well also be possible to give her some more head room in P&P. The hair will be easy to clone and you can enlarge the canvas at the top and add a black layer to give you the extension. The gold colour of the floor and the blue work a treat.
Is anyone else having problems posting images. I've tried IE and Mozilla to no good end. Whasup?
No problems this side of the pond Chris. I am using Camino and pasting in links from SmugMug
