Works for me. "punchy" and "orangey". Good work on the edit, Abhi.
Thanks, Jiro. I realized during pp that I misunderstood your suggestion regarding using a hard light earlier. I wanted the textures but not the shadows on reflections. I think a soft light from front and side could also have worked, but that would have required me to reposition relative to the window. So, I used a reflector for some limited fill light, and add more fill light during pp.
Yes Abhi, that is working well now; and you have a good 'depth' of colour in the orange areas.
Wow! What an improvement from the first post! Now I'm getting hungry for an orange!
I once shot a couple of oranges on a piece of crumpled midnight blue material that I really liked, I named it something like orange moons midnight sky LOL. I like the colors of the oranges on the black BG, but, although you titled simple, I think the black needs texture
Sounds interesting.
Thank you, Henry. I will keep this in mind in the future as some texture in the BG can certainly add more depth to the scene. It was very difficult for me to get any texture in this case, as the background is the reflection of a board on a mirror, but I could get some tonal variations by shining some light on the board.I like the colors of the oranges on the black BG, but, although you titled simple, I think the black needs texture
I just thought of something, what if a person were to reflect the texture by having something textured canopied over the scene and reflecting in the mirrored bottom, Just went through my head trying to imagine it......
Hi Henry (and Abhi),
That exact thought crossed my mind too; a textured background to reflect in the mirror, but I think that DoF limitations would mean it wouldn't really be sharp enough
Ah, I just read the last post which confirms it
It is fascinating watching the ideas develop here, many I suspect, are learning along with Abhi
(me included)
Cheers,
Hmmm, I like it, Guess I didnt exactly mean texture, but "tonal texture" LOL, is that a phrase???? I really do like it...
good progress and comments...
your orange is a bit sad... i think oranges should look freshly peeled. get a new one or rub some vaseline on it to perk it up
30s at ISO800! that is what the hubble space telescope needs... increase your light source.
you used a diffuser to control highlights. Why don't you take a couple of different exposures and just stack them then you can control dof and exposure anyway/anywhere you like in PS.
neil
Thanks, Neil.
It dried up in the time it took me to set everything up. Does the vaseline really work?your orange is a bit sad... i think oranges should look freshly peeled. get a new one or rub some vaseline on it to perk it up
Oh, this was taken using natural window light. We got a sudden thunderstorm right after I took the shot.30s at ISO800! that is what the hubble space telescope needs... increase your light source.
I have never tried that in PS. I will keep it in mind though. Even then I would probably prefer to get it right in one go instead of using PS.you used a diffuser to control highlights.
