When the sun finally shows itself there is standing room only. I saw no less than 5 logs this full. I only wish the sun had moved a little further around so I could get a little better light on them. C&C Welcome.

I totally love the whimsy of this shot! I've seen similar scenes, but never had my camera with me. How do they do that?
The only thing I might have done differently, if possible, is move a little more to the left to get the entire length of the log without the flowers in front. Of course, I realize you may not have been able to move any.

Thanks Frankie, yes I was limited in movement and was happy I was able to get what I did. It is funny to watch them when one decides to move {rarely}, one moves and 3 fall in and have to get in the back of the line or find another log.

Great shot Paul. I don't mind the angle or the flowers on the right as they give the shot depth and they give the main subject a frame to sit within. The only thing I would have done differently would be open the aperture up a little more to blur the foreground blades of grass a bit more so that they didn't distract as much from the log and it's hitch hikers.

Having grown up on a small pond, I used to see this a lot. It's typically just the turtles "sunning". On a nice, warm, sunny day, you can see turtles do this. The "stacking" is more a result of too many turtles and not enough log.

Thanks everyone. As Frankie said they were sunning. This was the first sunny day in quite a while and it brought all the turtles out at once. I have shots of other logs in the same area with twice as many turtles.

Thanks Steve. Here is another with the "trying to sink the log" thing. It is not one of my favorites but seeing how many have not seen this behavior before I figured it was worth a post.
