Thanks for the comments. i will create an album.i haven't done any post processing for the pics.
Any comments about these 2 pics ...i mean should the exposure be less or more or other fine points that u guys can suggest.

I see that the focal length this was taken at was 22mm and that the aperture setting was f7.1.

Can you remember how you focused for the photograph? Was it manual focusing or were you using the autofocus setting on your camera?

The reason I ask these questions is because there seems to be quite a narrow depth-of-field. I think you have focused on the flower that is lowest in the frame (#2), or that which is just to the right of and above it (#3). But, as you can see, the flower closest to us and those behind are out of focus.

I think it might have been better to focus just between the flower closest to us (#1) and #2. That would have led to the two of them and #3 all to be in focus.

Hi Donald,

it was manual focus.

My main focus was flower 2 at bottom and the 2 in line on the right.Because i was standing diagonally in line with them.Even i thought after seeing it that i should have take a bit more with full view .
I will keep that in mind while m taking the next shots.

Hi Sparsh, the first one has beautiful color but the background flowers are making it difficult to pick out the subject. I think I would try to get one or two flowers in sharp focus the foreground and mostly the out of focus green in the background. If I could, I'd include the out of focus fountain a little to one side so that it is separated a bit from the flowers and try to not clip the top of the fountian spray. Hope this helps!

Hi Sparsh: I agree with what Frank said about #1. I think with this shot I would have experimented with different apertures and angles. A couple things I would have tried.

1. If I wanted the fountain in the shot then I would have used a smaller aperture for more Depth of Field and then pick a focus point to try and keep the whole shot sharp (check circle of confusion), this might take you into tripod territory though depending on how your camera handles noise at higher ISOs. Have you tried ISO 400 with this camera. Also as Frank said I would have changed the angle and made sure that neither the top of the fountain or the bottom of the flower were cut off.

2. Or I might try going for really shallow DOF and leave the fountain out altogether so I could have a nice solid background for the flower. I think that would have worked well in this case because you background is far enough away to give you a nice blur if you open up the lens. As I write this though, I'm wondering if there would be enough DOF for the whole flower. I'm not much for calculations but if you are into that type of thing I think the Circle of Confusion applies here too, check it out. My method is to take a few shots at different settings, angles and focus points.
Another good tip, and I do this more and more these days is just sit and look at your subject for awhile and think about what you want in the final shot. For instance I'm sure you did not want to cut off the top of the fountain, or have such a distracting background. I do a lot of point and shoot snapping, I can't help myself when there are flowers around, but my best shots always come when I've been sitting and looking at something and consciously or unconsciously forming the shot in my mind before snapping.

Well, those are just a couple suggestions from an amateur, but I hope they help and I'm looking forward to seeing more shots.

Yes my intention was not to cut the flower at the bottom and i was like half lying on the ground when i took this with loads of wind in amsterdam . This was on the banks of a water body .I really should have taken could of more shots with more of a top view or could have maintained depth much better.Thanks for the suggestions to the novice

Hi Sparsh, I realize that you are just starting out and there are many different areas to learn. For posting images for feedback on how to improve, I would recommend limited your scope to one type of image at a time, then moving on to another type as you skill improves.

Let's say you were to start with flowers (or whatever you decide to begin with). Take all your flower shots and choose the best photograph of the bunch. Carefully examine your selected photo and decide what you like, and what you think needs to be improved. Post the one image with your questions specific to how to improve the aspect of the picture that you think needs the most help. That will help us to help you! We can then be more detailed in our response to your area of interest.

When you get the suggestions, try them and again post your best shot with your new questions and/or requests for clarifiaction. Before you know it you will be much better at flowers and may want to expand to shooting waterfowl (or whatever you decide to try next), using the same learning process.
