    Color and PP Critique.

Hello & thanks for viewing. I think I have my monitor problems solved (got a spyder 3) so I hope everyone says the color is good.

This is Nigel. He is my test subject for my first PP attempt in Lightroom 3. How did we do?

    Thanks

Looks great on my TV. And great photo, the smile is infectuous. Parents (this your son?) must love this photo.

    Have a guess :)

Almost there - it has a colour cast though, and you forgot output sharpening ...

(Also gave it a slight levels tweak)

Did you do this in LR? That makes it look even better! How did you get rid of the Colour Cast?

How does this look? I played with the sharpening and curves a bit.

Hi Michael, the best to judge WB is you. About your PP, the image looks as no edited to me, next images posted looks better though.

...VERY PERSONAL OPINION...I think you are worrying about a secondary thing, 1st you need focus, framing technique, proper iso selection, exposure and after all these, PP.

A lot of people skip the photography learning process and jump directly to PP, i disagree with that. I'm not saying that it's your case, but i think this could be a good tip in general.

    Cute boy, enjoy your model.

    good luck.

No - Photoshop ACR, which uses the same engine if shooting RAW.

The colour case was just 1 click on a neutral gray portion of the image - in this case I used a grey stripe in the t-shirt. If you want accurate white balancing then you'll need to use a grey card.

    Hi Michael,

The sharpening looks better, but there's still a cast and the midtones still look too low to me. Consider putting it alongside my version (which is reasonably optimal), and adjusting until you get close. I didn't use curves by the way - just the midtones levels slider
