Very interesting subject to photograph, Deb. #1 seems to be too tight on the crop. To add some contrast on the image, I would probably recommend that you darken the reflection on the water so the attention of the viewer can be focused more on the lighthouse. Or, you can actually direct the attention the other way around. Good control on the color and lighting. I like it.![]()
Looks good to me Deb, particularly the first shot. The sky looks kind of weird in the second, not sure what to make of it.
Cheers Dave
Dave,
The second shot is all reflection and the pebbles/stones in the rock pool are what you can see in the sky area. Hope this makes sense.
Deb
Hi Jiro,
Will try that and see how it looks. Good point though as this was not my favourite and probably for that very reason.

Hi Deb,
I really like your photographs and have a personal interest in them, last april I attempted something similar but am not happy with the shots and hope to try again when all the conditions are right,it proved difficult for me to get the exsposure right for the entire image.
If you don't mind I could post my two images on your thread for a comparison of style and maybe get some insight into how to improve on the capture of the image.
Best Wishes, Pat.
No problems - please post them.
Deb
Deb,
I like what Jiro said about the first picture. It's really good as is but a little tweek on the reflection would make it a great pic. I've only been on this site for a short time but have learned his thoughts are spot on!
Hi,
Thank you, I will have a go at his suggestion.
Deb
Hi Pat,
I like your shots. I was out shooting really early on the morning with my husband. He was the one who noticed the full reflection in this rock pool. He is a very good spotter for me.
My setting as followed:-
Nikon d700 camera
24-85mm lens @ 24mm
f5
20 second exposure
ISO 250
matrix metering
Auto White Balance
I took lots of shots and were only happy with a few. Very hard to get the lighthouse in nice focus without any water ripples. You appear to have done a good job of getting your lighthouse in focus too.
Because I was shooting so early in the morning, it was still dark so needed a fairly long exposure.
I want to go back and do this again.
Deb
Hi Deb,
My settings,Canon 450D EF-S 18-55mm Lens.
First Photo Second
15 Sec 6 Sec
f/11 f/11
ISO 400 ISO 400
18mm 55mm
What I hope to try is to wait for more light but still have the lighthouse flashing and this should (I think) bring out more detail and texture in the surronding rock,a faster shutter speed should help. These were shot in the early morning just after the dawn.
Best Wishes Pat.
Pat,
You'll enjoy going back and doing it again - as I will when I can get the chance.
