    The Colour Purple

In Brisbane in October, the Jacarandas bloom for a few weeks only. At that time, the city is a sea of purple - one of the visual highlights of the year for me.

There is an old saying that when the Jacarandas bloom, it is time for students to engage in some serious study as the final exams for the year are not far away. Fittingly, this shot was taken in the grounds of the University of Queensland. "Cambridge Downunder in Colour" perhaps ?

Very nice Dave. Is the pic a bit distorted or is it an optical illusion created by the path, shady ground and the trees?

I do like the capture here. It is a very peaceful scene that sweets and draws you in and well suits the slight panorama format. The person just adds to the lazy feel of the shot with the arm swaying by their side.

Thanks Mark and Peter for your encouraging remarks. I hope it's an optical illusion Mark. And yes Peter I think it's peaceful although the students facing exams at the time probably weren't in a position to appreciate that !

    Great shot Dave.
They are such beautiful trees. One of the local hotels here has one in its side yard which is a town icon; the tree that is, not the pub... but then on second thought This is so because it was grown from seeds bought back from Palestine by local soldiers returning from WW1 So the Jacarandas have a special meaning for some of us. Really would like to be able to stroll along the path under yours. It looks so enticing, absolutely beautiful.

    Thanks Ken

It's a lovely spot because there are so many trees together. I call in there every year in October in search of a better image every time but the quality of the flowers varies from year to year depending on the weather conditions in the lead up. My better half thinks I'm mad !

    Cheers Dave
