Hi all, my computer still not workin, but my sister got a new lap top so i thought i would upload some images. Hope it works.

The first two is of my cat "attikus"

The first one was full manual with shutter speed 1/400, f 10 and iso 400. I have edited it a touch.


The second one was full auto wich i edited to black and white, i really love this photo, dont know why.


And the last photo was of my cockatoo "Pat". Not sure on the settings. I like how his eye is in one of the wire loops to.
MOD edit: Settings were: 1/160s, f/4, iso100 on a Canon 1000D at 75mm


I have taken advice in shooting in RAW, and found that it is great to do so, you can edit alot more with raw than JPG. I only have the EOS UTILITIES to do it on, but thats fine by me. Really am enjoying this.

C&C's are most welcome. I know they are not perfect, but im a begginer after all. But am loving it. Any advice would be great!!

I believe you did a very fine job on the exposure for #1, Allen. Considering that you have an almost pure black and some whites on a harsh afternoon light, you were still able to expose the shot nicely. Even I would have a hard time choosing where to spot meter this scene. LOL! I have no idea if DPP have cloning capabilities but I would definitely recommend cloning out the white patches of dirt on the cat's fur. As we usually say "if you are shooting a portrait shot, make sure you aim the focus at the eyes." This practice also applies to pets so I recommend that next time, make sure that the eyes are tack sharp.

I know that you like #2 a lot but personally you chopped off his ear on the composition and the slanted angle does not help much. I was hoping that you give his black fur some more exposure so he can stand out from the background.

#3 is a funny shot and I like it. If the parrot is a bit farther fram the chicken wire fence, you can actually use a telephoto lens to blur it out for a cleaner shot. With a little tutoring and practice, you'll definitely grow a lot in this nice hobby of ours. Good luck.

Hi Allen,

I added the missing settings from #3 for you

Willie and I rarely disagree, so everything he said, plus;
In PP, the #1 shot could be improved further by blurring and toning down the wall behind Attikus (great name btw )
#3 - not a criticism, just an observation; bizarrely, to me, this looks like the sharp mesh is in front of the blurred mesh (except that's imposssible), I think the eye/brain wants to believe the two meshes are the same size hexagons, which they're not of course, but it therefore assumes the smaller ones are further away.
