Nice one Yegor, have you got a reflector or two there?

Nice shot also Walad, I love the pastel colours, if you used flash it's been very well balanced with the ambient. And it seems very sharp in all the right places. I'm inclined to think the ant is a bit lost against the stem, but I can't think of what else you could have done because moving around to the side to separate the two would give you a profile which would be a different shot altogether.

I suspect the only alternative to consider with the ant shot, Walad, would be a closer crop; possibly going to 4 x 5 ratio and losing a bit from the sides.

Either way, good focus, exposure and colour.

I don't recognise the hoverfly, Yegor. The wing veins seem like one of the Eristalini family but possibly one that we don't see in the UK.

Thanks for viewing and your valuable comments. I appreciate it very much! Btw, I cant't remember which lens I used. Let me check its original copy with exif data either with macro lens 100mm/2.8 IS or MP-E 65mm 1-5x? Will get back to you soonest possible.

The Rose Aphid, Macrosiphum rosae, is the most common insect pest of roses. The females can lay live minature females as appears in your first image, but they also do mate at certain times of the year. Parthenogenesis allows the insect population to very rapidly increase when the feed supply is abundant

Ken, thank you for your reply. I curious, what do they eat, what is their food supply, as it doesn't seem they eat the rose itself, perhaps the pollen?

Haven't shot much in the way of insects but I do enjoy macro photography. After seeing what is posted here it makes me want to look a little harder for the little buggers.

Canon 40D, 100mm f2.8 macro. 1/1000 at ISO 100 and f2.8, -0.33 ex comp.

Great images, David and Bob! I am looking forward to good season again.
However today is the first Spring day, and although I only had a wide angle I thought that the small flies daring to venture on snow were worth a a picture. So here is my first insect in the wild for 2013

They suck the sap from the plant, and can cause deformation of the flower.

Get some ladybugs and/or their larvae... they naturally prey on aphids. You can sometimes order them online from gardening suppliers.

Nice shot David. I like the posture of the insect and the background colours.
Those aphids are interesting Bob. I have neglected them a bit, but I'll have a look at them when I see them in my garden (before removing them;)).
