You have all the basics covered there, Terri, full shot of the flower and clear wing veins on the bee, which should make identification possible.

The background isn't excessive distracting and you have managed to avoid over exposure on the yellow petals.

Thanks, Geoff. It is difficult with these extension tubes that don't carry the electronics through to the lens but it was fun to try.

I don't know the name of this green insect.But it is beautiful.I was after several butterfly when i suddenly noticed bright green colour.I captured it in my camera.Alas!I don't know it's name .Can you help me?

Hi Geoff, I was thinking this also. It was took in an area with lots of water and greenery. At first I thought maybe something to do with a dragonfly as there are a lot in this area but I really have no idea.

The first pic was taken with a +2 closeup filter on my 55-250 lens at 250mm.



The second pic was taken at 250mm without the macro filter.

Gary, in fact it does look like a dragonfly nymph. They live underwater for a period of time (sometimes two years), eating small aquatic insects like mosquito larvae, and even small fish, and then they climb out to moult into an adult dragonfly. The fact that you caught this one out of the water suggests that it was getting ready to moult into an adult, which is an amazing process to watch.

Looks like a squash bug to me, or something similar. They're in an order of insects called Hemiptera, which are called "true bugs." We tend to use the word "bug" for all kinds of insects, but these are really and truly called bugs.

It's a fly, but wow I've never seen a fly like that one before! All flies have two wings (unlike most other flying insects, which have four). That's the easiest way to tell a fly from a bee or wasp, for example.

Terri, not a fly which I have seen anywhere but it has a spiky bum and the wing looks as though the 4th vein has a sharp curve at the end so I would start by considering one of the Tachinidae family.

Steven, that one is well hidden, which makes finding dinner a bit easier. Do we still have a Spider Post somewhere? I will see if I can locate it as I have some spider photos for upload.

But for now, here is another UK Hoverfly - Helophilus trivittatus male (rather similar to the commoner H. pendulus but a bit larger and the face lacks any vertical black stripe).

I find a little black widow outside of my house, here is the photo. In this time i don't have a macro lens, i will search another one to take a picture with my tube extension set.
