Tell me what you think of this Picture

The concept of the image is good. In my opinion, the image could have had a greater impact to me as a viewer if the following could be changed or edited from the original image.

1. The contrast seems to be too high causing what we call as "raccoon eyes" on the lady. A lot of the subtle midtones are lost on the b&w conversion. I would definitely recommend getting the contrast as close as possible to the original set of tones to make the b&w conversion nicer.

2. I am not a purist, meaning I usually take away what is unnecessary on whatever is inside the frame that does not help strengthen my main subject. Considering this tendency of mine, I would probably recommend cloning out those small white patches on the horse's hair and some of the bright spots on the background.

I would also crop the top portion a little as the bright areas does not seem to help the image at all. If you may, I made a small edit on the image based on my recommendations and this is what I came up with:

To me, the original seems to be over sharpened so Willie's reworking can only go so far.

But I suspect there is an excellent photo here; it just needs starting again with slightly more subtle editing.

That does look better with the hay shavings out of his hair thanks I appreciate the feedback

I agree, it is oversharpened and too contrasty. But you do have a very nicd DOF going for you in this image.
