Good looking dog! Nice exposure on the white fur. I have trouble with that sometimes with my dog

    Thanks everyone

@ Brian: Yes - it can be difficult. As with any highlight, the "trick" is to not over-expose it; in fact - if anything - shoot RAW and under-expose it. For some reason histograms tend to lie when shooting animals like this; they show the area as not blown, but in reality you have to sometimes reduce the exposure in post-processing by as much as one to two stops to reveal the detail. In this case, I was using a big octabox to camera left, and had it a bit too close - and so the exposure varied. I simply used a GND filter in ACR to batch correct all shots in the series ... worked like a charm

Lovely dog! How many dog treats did he need to pose like that?

None - he was a very old dog who couldn't walk properly - and was quite happy to just stay where ever he was put

Too cute! It's funny to see a dog with such wonderful portrait lighting - catch lights and all. Very glamorous pooch! I love his eyes!

Sounds a bit like me. It's a good shot. Was it for the owners? I'll bet they were very pleased with it.

    Hi Rob,

Yes, they loved it, but it was kinda "bitter/sweet" for them as Gerry was very old and sick, but you probably don't want to know the rest ...

Lovely exposure Colin. Reminds me of the joke about the spider who obeyed human commands - walk forward, walk back. The owner said the only problem was when you cut off his legs he went deaf.

    Thanks Peter,

Reminds me of the joke "What do you call a dog with no legs?" - andwer: "It doesn't matter - he ain't gunna come"!

    Thanks Pat,

He's on a black "function" table, with a black cloth taped to the top to reduce the reflectivity even more. It shows a little in the original, but it's easy to remove in post-processing. His front paws are draped over the front edge of it.
