One of my cichlids
Hi Everyone,
I've done some PP on the below photo of one of my cichlids (sorry I do not know its Latin name). It was a tricky shot to take and required immense patients.
Taken with a Nikon D7000, 240mm focal length (I needed to be about 7 feet away to not scare the fish). f/5.3, 1/8sec, ISO 9000.
Your comments are always welcome.

Re: One of my cichlids
Erik,
Something didn't work with posting your photo... but I am looking forward to it, and hopefully will be able to give you the scientific name for your cichlid. I owned a pet store / hatchery for a couple years. We bred all kinds of rare fish, including tons of cichlids.

Re: One of my cichlids
Erik,
Looks like a "Yellow Lab" or Labidochromis caeruleus. A very popular cichlid... I bred hundreds and hundreds of them. From the looks of it, that appears to be a young adult male or a mature female (it is tough to tell without anything for scale). The males will get black on their pelvic fins whereas a female will not. Young males will suppress that color as much as possible if a more dominant male is in the tank (otherwise they're in for a fight).
Let me know if you want pointers on how to breed them...

Re: One of my cichlids
Hi Bill,
The name was on the tip of my tongue. My tank is over 5 yrs old and is self sustaining. Whenever I do a water change, it stimulate breeding. This particular fish may actually be a hybrid that was brought into a store my friend managed. I'll keep attempting to get picture of the other guys for you.

Re: One of my cichlids
Erik,
It is highly possible that it is a hybrid actually. They can and do cross with quite a few different species, and looking at the forehead shape and the dark coloration there, it is highly likely that it is a hybrid actually.

Re: One of my cichlids
Hi Erik,
Not a bad capture, especially at that range and iso.
If mine, in PP, I would clone out some/all of the glass scratches and other floating detritus and also dull down the highlight a bit behind the fish.
Cheers,
