Thanks rob, this one was shot with the TC so i was about 45 to 50 yards. I can fairly often get within 20 to 30 yards and use the straight 300mm. It just depends on their mood and which deer ( some are more tolerant ). You have to pay close attention to their body language and make slow non-threatening movements. ( for example looking away from them and taking a step closer then watch their reaction) After they accept you, you can usually follow them at a 25 yard distance . When you get too close , they will start walking away or run. It is really cool to have a place like this to photograph them.
