Mary,
I honestly am not a huge fan of the centered crop you have there - particularly with the lean to the right the lovely couple seems to have. I would personally ditch the square crop on this and go with a landscape format with the couple off-center to the left. And if possible, I would give just a tad more space above your son's head - he seems a little cramped in there.
As for the PP, I think the colors are good and you've nicely provided separation from the background for your subjects.
Nice shot.

The original is a vertical image so there is not any extra room on either side. I was in such a hurry because the sun had set and the light was dwindling so fast... I have more excuses... I just have to think of them. I'll see what I can come up with on the crop.
Thanks, Bill.
Bummer. Sorry it wasn't as helpful. Forget what I said and keep it as is...

Hi Mary, regardless of how you crop the image, they both have beautiful faces. If you haven't done facial retouching, these would be excellent candidates to experiment and learn with. I don't normally do portraits but I was able to find a number of tutorials and videos that can make fairly significant improvements with relatively beginner skills. Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised!
I hadn't gotten that far yet. I know how to do a bit, but not much. I should learn and retouch myself!
Thank you, Frank. I'll keep playing with it and with some of the others that I have. I told Shannon I'd send a disc with all the files since I took them the night before she flew home. I'm hoping to have one that I can't print and frame to send with the disc. Young love.
Hello,
I would like to mention that there are so many ways to show a couples love for one an another with photography, but this photo is so typical. I hope this doesnt hurt anyones feelings.
Jim
I tried putting them on the left side but it felt awkward to me since they are leaning "to the right". By positioning them to the right the frame of the image somehow gives the impression of "support" to the main subject. Another kind of illusion using composition tricks.
If you can send me the large RAW file I can probably help you in some sort. Just an idea for the lovely young couple. I still have some free time before I cook dinner again.

Hope that works.
How about my version ?
I found it rather difficult to crop. The horizon was a problem for me.
The available light was certainly rather dull and poor. Cloudy wasn't it ?
I wonder if a flash - diffused - would "save" the photo !? Or perhaps just a large reflector.

Hope you like it.
