Is she faking it?

We found some baby lizards in our French country house. They are tiny, about 3 centimetres at this time and I photographed them with my macro lens.

Interestingly, when the baby lizard thought we had her cornered (is it a she?), she played dead.
First she clumsily turned from her belly to her back and kept like that for a couple of minutes. The only obvious sign of life was the eye that opened (second picture) to check what I was doing with that huge Nikon just above her.


Ah, she just 'died'. The legs are not quite relaxed yet


This is taking a long time, what is that Nikon 'predator' doing?

Lovely photos! and a cute, funny little thing! There are some gorgeous and wonderfully sharp textures, in these photos, between the glass and the stones and the lizard, itself. I particularly like 'caught under glass' and 'released'. Thanks for sharing the story.

Excellent. Yes, a smart baby lizard. When you went it must have felt very pleased with itself having got away with it's life and fooled your lens into believing it was dead.

It was meant to intimidate I guess. Him/her measuring just 3 centimeters in length did not help though
