Sensual shots indeed. The only disturbing thing I find in the photos (due to the mist of course) is that my eye keeps searching for details on the mountains. Somehow it draws my attention away from the foreground. It is like the mountains are not real.

I like the first one best , colin. You have a much better range between the highlights and shadows, and more detail. I also like the double layer in the mountains and the color of the sky better. A very nice image.

The second one , for me, is a little flat (lighting that is).

Beautiful colors, simplicity, and a phenomenal sense of depth, Colin! I really like the mirror image second row of mountains in the first shot that accentuates the depth of the scene.

What are those small objects on rocks? Snails?
& could the same results be expected without filters?

As you may have picked up from some of my posts I am not a great fan of fluffy water and shiny rocks but the combination of the predictable with the stunning back drop makes the images outstanding. I have a preference for the second image but that is splitting hairs. Remember everyone that Colin shoots with large prints in mind and you can only image the impact of these images in that format.

So I think fluffy water has its place provided it is combined with something that contrasts sharply with its inherent benignity. Here the sharp almost pen like lines of the backdrop with bold colour create a perfect contrast. Best fluffy water shots I have seen Colin and the only ones I would hang behind my IKEA leather sofa...only kidding

To answer the question, it was a "spur of the moment" shoot. The basic problem is that I deliberately shot these with a long lens to avoid some of the inherrant issues with UWA lenses, and that means getting REALLY low to the ground -- and I just couldn't do that and keep my feet dry - and I wasn't about to get my new shoes wet! So it's "off with the shoes and socks - roll up trousers - and get the shots!" (I figure the shots will last a lifetime - the pain is only temporary!).

I could have blurred one or the other, but I needed a narrow aperture for shutterspeed control anyway, and that gave me a pretty deep DoF. I generally don't introduce too much blur with landscape shots though.

Thanks for the kind words, I was fortunate enough to have good shadow detail thanks to the use of the GND filter, so I decided to make one a bit more contrasty, and leave the other a little flatter just to reveal more of the texture of the rocks.

Keep in mind too that they're both very sensitive to monitor adjustments.

To be honest, I'm a little "over" ultra wide-angle at the moment - these were shot with a 70-200mm lens - I think it demonstrates how vastly different the perspective is from a wide angle lens.

It's the curves of the rocks. Very pleasing on the eye and so are the colours.

Maybe Steve's way of thinking is rubbing off on me. But then again, it could be Rob's influence. All those randy sheep and cows. (Look - there's even a Rob smiley!) (I think this is a Steve smiley.)
