Computer monitor for viewing/processing photos

I am sure there will be plenty of enthusiasts who have hit up against the PC monitor problem when viewing their photos. I am equally sure that the question has been asked as to what monitor is best suited to the photographer both for viewing photos and for processing them. And there will be plenty of answers I am sure, but I missed them, so if anyone could direct me in the right direction I would be obliged.

Unfortunately though, the 27" iMac isn't a PC monitor

Bud, I agree with you. We had Macs at work, but I am retired now and only have a PC. The Mac were much better than the PC and Microsoft, only they were much more expensive. I beleieve this is especially true in the Uk, but may be so elsewhere.

I think Apple and Dell have the same displays or should I say use the same displays.
Any display that is IPS will normally be better than a TN panel.

Hi Malcolm,

I, and a few others here, are happy with our Viewsonic's (I have a 23" VP2365wb).

You want an IPS screen to avoid viewing angle problems.

Hi Malcolm, when I was searching for a replacement monitor for my 21" NEC I discovered that at that time there was no better monitor available for a reasonable price than the 26" W2600H LG. It has turned out to be the best PC monitor I have ever used.

I recommend that you get a larger monitor than you think you need. I bought a 23-inch Multisync EA231WMi which is a great monitor but, it is not really big enough. I thought it would be plenty big but it is scarcely higher, top to bottom, than my 19-inch Dell monitor. I wish I had bought a 26-inch monitor like Frank was smart enough to do...

Personally, I use 2 monitors - a grotty old 17" one which I put all the toolbars and pallets on, and a 24" one (which is calibrated and profiled) just for the image. Although the 24" monitor is a widescreen, it can pivot 90 degrees for processing vertical shots (works well).
