    Re: Aperture 3

I signed up for a trial on Elements 9 and have used it somewhat during the last three weeks. Am lukewarm on Elements 9. It seems El 9 cannot process 16 bit RAW files and must convert everything to 8 bit.

I have been using Aperture 3 for about 16 months. I love Ap 3. Ap 3 handles all size RAW files easily and is MUCH easier and intuitive to use.

    Hi Bud,

Elements can be changed (bottom centre of screen while RAW image is in ACR) to import into Elements as 16 bit.

Once in Elements, you can do most things that affect the whole image OK in 16 bits, and Save as a 16 bit TIFF.
But as soon as you try to do anything selective; e.g. cloning, dodging, burning, etc., (or use layers, I think), it'll offer to convert to 8 bit.

By then, it's usually not a problem if you're only after web use.

If you're happy with Aperture 3, why change?

    Cheers,

I am sticking with Aperture 3. I was just evaluating Elements 9 to see if I could do some of the things that Aperture presently doesn't do. I like using Layers, but unfortunately, it's been so long since I worked extensively in Photoshop I have forgotten much of what I learned.

    Harpo,
I have the 24" iMac and have been using Aperture 3 for about a year and have had no trouble at all. I just got an eternal hard drive because of the amount of pics I have. I love this processor but haven't tried anything els.

I believe Aperture 3's Adobe equivalent is actually Lightroom, not Elements.
